shiroka_IukaThe IRISES project will address the problem of the rights of children in residential care and detention in seven EU member-States: Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Greece by providing training for professionals working with children and for Roma and non-Roma children in residential and detention care.

Educators are in everyday contact with children and often are the only adults that look after and educate them. Inappropriate approaches of teachers cause further traumas that are difficult to overcome years after the children leave institutions. On the other hand children at the age of 9-10 start to reflect on why they are different from the others. They often develop a sense of guilt for being abandoned, some develop provocative aggressive behaviour, others go in depression.

irises_home_page_2The IRISES partners aim to raise the awareness of children of age 10-18 in residential and detention care about their rights, involving them in decisions that concern their future and empower them as European citizens.
